Bart Stewart

Feb 11, 1961 -

Aug 5, 2022

Bart Alan Stewart, 61, died on Aug. 5, 2022, at his home in Two Rivers, Alaska.

Bart was born on Feb. 11, 1961, in Newcastle, Wyo., to R. Keith and Kay Stewart and spent his early childhood in Rapid City, S.D.; Newtown, Ohio; Arlington, Texas; and came to Anchorage, Alaska, at the age of 8.

After graduating from Bartlett High in 1979, he went to work for Geophysical Services as the head surveyor, and worked on the North Slope in the winter and in the Rocky Mountain area in the summer. He did a stint as a long-haul trucker for a while. He later returned to surveying and worked for hydroGeophysics Inc. in Arizona, and then returned to Alaska in 2003, and worked at Pogo Mine from 2006-2017, when he retired.

He grew up listening to stories of his grandpa Stewart's early years in Alaska and chose to live the Alaskan lifestyle at his home in the Two Rivers area of Fairbanks.

He spent time with friends fishing, hunting, skiing, watching wildlife and just enjoying the outdoors. He followed in his grandpa Skog's footsteps and became a skilled woodworker and enjoyed passing on his knowledge to the next generation of woodworkers.

Bart is survived by his mother, Kay Stewart; sisters, Deborah (Mark) Smith and Dianna Stewart; brother, Robert (Crissie) Stewart; nieces, Katherine (Mike Spillane) Smith, Megan Enstrom, Zoey and Karley Stewart; nephews, Kenneth (Annie Carver) Smith, Jason Enstrom and Brandon Pyke; great-nephews, Maximus Smith and Konrad Spillane; aunt and uncles, Judy and Jack Hoar; Doug and Sally Denny.

He is preceded by his father, R. Keith Stewart; grandparents, Rusty and Phyllis Skog, RK and Gertrude Stewart, and Marge Denny.

His ashes will be spread over the mountains in Alaska.
