Mr. Gordon Michael Schmidt, age 75, born on Nov. 26, 1946, in Chicago Heights, Ill., passed away in his home, of natural causes, peacefully on Feb. 16, 2022, at 633 Price Street, Anchorage, Alaska, where he lived in the Mountain View neighborhood for 30-plus years. He leaves behind his wife, Yoko Schmidt (Minami); three daughters, Rachael, Janice and Ursula - named after 007 Bond girls; grandchildren, Kodai, Kento, Myu, Keita, Naoto and Ryu in Sasebo, Japan; and oldest brother, John Schmidt and his family in Chicago, Ill.

He served in the United States Navy as enlisted during the Vietnam War stationed in Sasebo, Japan, where he met and married his only wife. He later served in the Merchant Marines for a few years. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsmen. He was a local VFW Post member surrounded by friends, a quiet man with his own custodial business. He enjoyed his garden with blueberry and raspberry patches, as well as cooking and his neighbors and community. Alaska is where he found peace and the care he needed.
