Lois Litteer Nunweiler of Anchorage, Alaska was born on Sept. 13, 1926 and passed away on Feb. 23, 2022. Lois was predeceased by her husbands, Frank Cook and Jack Nunweiler; her son, Craig Cook; her sister, Jean Stella; her parents, Francis and Hazel Litteer; and her niece, Patricia Uveino. Lois is survived by her niece, Jodie Edington. Lois had a long interesting life, filled with travel and a variety of careers and friends all over the world. Lois was known for her smile and her warm, upbeat personality.
Lois was born in Groveland, N.Y., then later moved to Silver Springs, N.Y. Lois was very active growing up and had many interests. She took dancing and piano lessons, played trumpet, was a majorette and cheerleader and worked at her father's store.
Lois graduated from Silver Springs High School as Salutatorian in 1944. After high school, she attended Rochester Business Institute. She married Frank Cook in 1951, and their son, Craig, was born a year later. In 1967, she married Jack Nunweiler.
Over the next few decades, Lois lived in Alaska, Virginia, Polynesian Islands, Japan, and Tennessee. She and Jack finally settled back in Alaska in 1988.
Throughout her life, Lois was active in many organizations, some of which were the Red Hats, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Lions Auxiliary, and the Miss Alaska and Miss America Pageants.
Lois had many careers during her lifetime. She worked in the medical field, had a variety of government jobs and was a Mary Kay Consultant.
Some of Lois's leisure activities were reading, doing crossword puzzles, taking cruises, going to Hawaii with her son, Craig, going to Las Vegas, and going out to dinner with friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022 at noon at Evergreen Memorial Chapel on 737 E Street, Anchorage, AK 99501.
