Clair Leo Shirey

Long time Alaskan, Clair Shirey, passed away in his home in Eagle River, Alaska on June 21, 2022, just shy of his 104th birthday.

On July 6, 2022, there will be an 11 a.m. rosary, with mass to follow at 12 p.m., at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Officiated by Fr. Arthur Roraff. Pallbearers: Jack Tucker, Dave Shirey, Jim Iagulli, Mark Merrill, MaryJo Iagulli, and Barbara Wortman. Clair will be buried at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery.

Clair was born to parents Karl Leo Shirey and Isabel Margaret Reinhart in Fostoria, Ohio, on Aug. 25, 1918.

Clair enlisted in the US Air Force in 1941. During his first few years of service, he met and married his late wife, Alice Hope Shirey on Jan. 15, 1946. He retired as as "Full Bird" Colonel in 1971

He is survived by his children, Sue Hope (Rod Augustine), Rob Shirey, Barbara Shirey, Dave Shirey, Paula Shirey, and Anne Shirey Kinsey; granddaughter, Heather Shirey; and 10 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Karl and Isabel Shirey; siblings, Fr. Joseph E. Shirey SJ, Mary S. Tucker, Richard L. Shirey, and Rita J. Shirey; and his wife Alice Hope Shirey.
