Robert Grant Henke took God's hand today after a long and beautiful life filled with amazing adventures and loving relationships with his bride of over 63 years.
Robert was born on the longest day of the year, June 21, 1937, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Inez Virginia Henke. His father, Louis Henke, was an aircraft mechanic for McDowell Douglas, and the small family moved to Alaska during World War II. Robert grew up on the outskirts of Anchorage, Alaska, on Fireweed Lane. Robert's first encounter with his bride was at Big Lake, Alaska, when a young playful lady teased Robert for wearing white pants as he worked on a boat engine. Two years later they were married; they had three sons: Grant, Scott and Kirk. Robert started Action Locksmiths in 1964, and he and Charlotte grew the successful security business with the help of their employees.
Robert Henke lived life to the fullest. Some of the highlights include: winning the Midnight 600 snowmobile race, class D; boating with his loved ones in Prince William Sound for over 40 years; being married to his best friend for over 60 years; touring the Amazon River; being a founding member of the Anchorage Hockey Association; enjoying golf with Brush Christiansen, Jerry Henke and many others; being a "Great Alaskan Fishing Guide" for his friends John Patterson, Milo White and Owen O'Keefe; and being a professional safe cracker and locksmith with Bob Skaats.
Robert is survived by his wife, Charlotte Marie; son, Scott Henke; son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Martina; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Andrea Henke; sister, Arlita McDonald; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving son, Grant Lee Henke; mother, Inez; and father, Louis.
