Rodney Peter Berg

Dec 24, 1951 -

May 13, 2022

On Friday, May 13, 2022, Rodney Peter Berg, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and dear friend to so many, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side after a prolonged battle with multiple myeloma. He was born to Kenneth and Lavern Berg in Minot, N.D., in 1951. He was 70 years old.

Rodney, "Rod," is survived by his wife of 44 years, Christy; son, Nick; two grandchildren, Bryan and Henry; five siblings, Cynthia, Randy, Tim and Betty, Marty; mother, Lavern; and many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rod moved to Northern California with his family as a child. He grew up hunting and fishing in the Napa/Sacramento area and had a major passion for the outdoors. He served his country in the Air Force and was a veteran.

In 1982, Rod moved from Napa to Soldotna, Alaska, in search of opportunities to raise his family and help to pioneer the recreational fishing industry on the Kenai Peninsula. Over the next three-plus decades, Rod became a well-known, well-respected guide on the Kenai River and Cook Inlet. He loved to hunt all big game, small game and enjoyed hunting waterfowl as well.

Rod was a family man through and through. He was a man of impeccable character, integrity, unwavering loyalty and had a heart of absolute gold. Those who knew him best knew how passionate he was about the people and activities he loved. Of all his roles he played in life, grandfather, "Pop-Pop," was his favorite.

We are happy Rod is in heaven with friends and family. Thank you so much for all the love and joy you brought us!

There will be a public memorial service on the Kenai River in the slow waters above Beaver Creek on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at 2 p.m., to spread his ashes in the spot and on the river he cherished most. Feel free to join us on the river that day.
