Barbara K. Peryam, 69, passed away on May 4, 2022, due to progressive supranuclear palsy at her home in Wasilla, Alaska.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., on July 1, 2022, at the Moose Lodge, 1136 South Cobb Street in Palmer, Alaska. Rev. John Wilson will officiate. Her cremated remains will be merged with her husband's, upon his death, and be scattered at Hatcher Pass; the place where they had their first kiss.
Barbara was born on Feb. 3, 1953, in Waynesboro, Pa. She graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1971.
Barbara honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from September 1973 to January 1978. She was stationed at Minot AFB from 1973-1975; and at Elmendorf AFB from 1975-1978. She was employed by the Department of Defense from 1978-2009, when she retired. She attended the Presbyterian Church and from 1991 to 2000; she was involved with the Mat-Su Miners Baseball, housing team players and multiple other contributions to the team. She also participated with Relay for Life from 2009-2018. In her free time, Barbara could be found reading, gardening and sewing. Her family stated, "She was a loving mother, wife and a good friend; she was a thoughtful person that always remembered those special occasions and loved to celebrate with friends and family."
Barbara is survived by her husband, Michael R. Peryam; son, Jeremiah Michael Peryam, both of Wasilla; brothers, Bruce (Sherry) Shearer of Odessa, Texas, and Chalmer (Pete) Shearer of Grand Canyon, Ariz.; and sisters, Lavon (Jim) Marshall of Punta Gorda, Fla., Carol (Fred) DeLaney of Wellsboro, Pa., Jean Simmer of Waynesboro, Pa., and Debra (Dave) Vanauken of Antigo, Wis.
She is preceded in death by her parents, M. Chelmar Shear and Ruth Alma Warren; brother, Barry Shearer; and sister, Susan Fleagle.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Relay for Life.
