Lifelong Alaska resident Daniel John Van Ness passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at Alaska Regional on May 23, 2022, with his loving family at his bedside.
The service will be held at Heritage Chapel at Angelus, 440 East Klatt Road in Anchorage, Alaska, at 1 p.m., on Friday, June 3, 2022. Per Dan's wishes, there will be no burial.
Daniel was born on June 24, 1980, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. He attended Chinook, Mears and Dimond schools. Throughout his adult life Daniel loved working construction jobs throughout the state of Alaska. Daniel was a member of the Local 367 Plumbers & Steamfitters Union. His favorite job was working alongside his "Papa" at Pemco Corp for over 20 years. He started working for his Papa as a laborer, pipefitter and then a welder "Bead hand." He found a new passion when he joined the crew of the Scandies Rose. Being out at sea was a whole new adventure for him.
Daniel was given various nicknames by those who loved him, i.e. Danny Boy, Dano, Danny. He was a good soul that anyone could count on. He would help those in need without a second thought to himself. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his loving mother, Arlene; two sisters, Aletha (Paul) and Christie (Matt); grandmother, Marlene; uncle and aunts, Steve (Renae), Lori (Joe), Karen (David), Andy (Portland) and Anita (Chuck); nephews and nieces, Tyler, Jack, Sean, Kirsten, Kaitlyn and Waylon; cousins, Kevin (Sri), Melissa, Cheryl, Kaley, Anthony, Jesse, David Jr. Jessica, Garrett, JulieAnn, Craig, Carlie, Nikole, Eva, Elle, Aeris, Brekken and Nadine, all of Alaska; and the many friends whose lives he touched.
Daniel was preceded in death by his grandfather. "Papa"; aunt, Cathy; and dear family friend, "JW" John.
The family extended their deepest thanks to the staff at Alaska Regional for their compassionate care, Dr. Polido, Nurse Kim, Nurse Gabby and many others.
