Michael Joseph Tucker, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away on April 22, 2022. Tucker was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and graduated from West Anchorage High School in 1972. Shortly after he married his high school sweetheart and together they raised three children. He will be remembered for his love for family, community and God.
Tucker grew up playing hockey and was an avid skier and ski instructor. He passed those passions on to his children, taught them how to skate and ski, and relished in the moments his family got to descend down Alyeska together. His family will be celebrating him on their annual subsistence fishing trip in July.
Tucker had a passion for training rural Alaskans for employment on local projects, particularly in construction. He had decades of experience with construction and served as an instructor with Alaska Works Partnerships for 14 years. In that capacity, he delivered safety training and construction skills classes for village projects, regional housing authorities, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, and construction academies for youth and adults in many communities across Alaska.
He was highly regarded for his dedication to Alaska Native families and communities as longtime president of Knik Tribal Council, chair of the Benteh Nuutah Valley Native Primary Care Center Joint Operating Board, Cook Inlet Tribal Council board member and a member of the Elder board at LifeSpring Bible Church.
Tucker survived by his wife, Jacque; children, Kyle, Curtis and Kalani; siblings, Ev, Sean, Chris and Matt; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at the Alaska Native Heritage Center on June 4, 2022, at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Knik Tribe's Mike Tucker Scholarship Fund, contact: gnayonayon@kniktribe.org.
