May 9, 2022
With deep sorrow, our family announces the passing of Jerome "Jerry" Scott Sandys on May 9, 2022, at Alaska Regional Hospital. Jerry was born the youngest of three siblings to Harry and Joan Sandys on April 11, 1960. The family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in April 1967. He attended Rabbit Creek Elementary and Hanshew Middle schools. Jerry graduated 1978 from Bullard High in Fresno, Calif., where his family lived during a break from their residency in Anchorage.
Jerry's parents provided a wonderful Alaska childhood for their kids, and he was enthusiastic in his endeavors. He skied Alyeska, camped in the tent trailer with his family, fished, drove the old Polaris snowmachine, ice skated and played little league baseball. He was a happy, cheerful kid who had a fun sense of humor and a an infectious laugh.
Jerry met his wife and best friend, Julie Wade, while in Fresno, and they married on April 24, 1982. He introduced Julie to Alaska as newlyweds and it is Alaska she calls home to this day. As a dad, Jerry made sure his kids had fun filled family outings and holidays with extended family. Jer was a great fisherman who could navigate the Kenai River with expertise. If you were in his boat, you always came back with fish. The kids all loved to go with him; he was just plain fun to be with.
Jerry worked in sales before an injury forced his early retirement. He spent the last 15 years in California and in spite of severe illness, was determined to get back home to Alaska and his family. He recently checked himself out of a California hospital and flew to Anchorage and the loves of his life, ex-wife Julie Sandys and adult children, Chad, Kris and Kate. He passed at Alaska Regional Hospital comforted by his loving family, brother Jeff and sister-in-law Elena, and niece Tamara who traveled up from Kenai to be present at his bedside.
Jerry is survived by ex-wife, Julie Sandys; and three children, Chad Sandys, Kris Sandys and Kate Paoletti (Gino); baby grandson, Miller James Paoletti; sister, Jaci Borges (Marty); brother, Jeff Sandys (Elena); nieces, Tamara, Caroline, Ally and Amelia, Karlie; and nephew, Matthew. His parents Harry and Joan Sandys predeceased him.
The family wishes to convey their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Alaska Regional Hospital, Dr. Taleb and Nurse Jackie for their care and support of all our family during this time.
A private family celebration of life for Jerry, Joan and Harry Sandys will be held this summer in Alaska, where Jerry's ashes will be placed lovingly along with his parents Joan and Harry.
