Bunny Bessie Levine
Feb 7, 1928 -
Apr 16, 2022
Bunny Levine died in her home, at the age of 94, on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Born Bunny Kerman in New York on Feb. 7, 1928, she was raised in a small Brooklyn apartment with her eight siblings. She married David Levine in 1951, and remained with him until his passing in 2019. After David's service in the Korean War, the couple moved to Moose Pass, Alaska. Soon after, they moved to a home in Spenard, which Bunny lived in until her passing. There she would raise her three sons, Howard, Steven and Larry, all of whom live in Alaska today.
Bunny was unwavering and stoic, a stabilizing force for loved ones through trying times. Even as a steadfast matriarch her personal life remained rich. Using her perks as a former airline worker, she often traveled back east into her old age to visit her extended family. She had many outings with "the girls," a squad of seniors that would be noticed by many an Alaskan.
Bunny was an incredibly prolific knitter. After she had made enough to cover her family in her creations, she donated her excess creations; the family sometimes spotted unhoused strangers around town wearing her hats.
Bunny is survived by her three sons; grandchildren, Thomas, Danielle, Michael, Sam and Ben; daughters-in-law, Karen and Annette; and countless Kermans. She is also survived by Anchorage itself, a city she helped create and filled with care.
Funeral Service will be held at Congregation Beth Sholom on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 1 p.m.
