Russ was a loving husband, father of three and a steadfast follower of Christ. His military service with both the U.S. Army and the Air National Guard was marked by excellence and skill as a helicopter pilot, rescue coordinator and air defense manager. He served his community with fervor, coaching high school track and field for Grace Christian School and mentoring and teaching Christ to those in the Anchorage Grace College Bible Study.

He was a faithful warrior who passed after multiple complications related to myelodysplastic syndrome, a version of leukemia. He went to be before God's throne, sent from his bedroom surrounded by family and friends.

He is survived by wife, Tara; sons, Drew and Jordan; daughter, Brennyn; and grandson, Holden.

He will be buried at Legacy Heritage Chapel at St. Angelus. His memorial service was on April 4, 2022.
