Mar 20, 2022

Milivoj "Milo" Mujagic passed away peacefully on March 20, 2022, at the Anchorage Pioneer Home. He was born April 13, 1936, in his homeland of Croatia, former Yugoslavia. He left there after most of his family was killed during WWII. He came to America with nothing more than a small bag and big dreams. He joined the U.S. Army, played professional soccer and enjoyed sailing.

While working construction on the Space Needle at the World's Fair in Seattle, he met the love of his life, Diane. They were married and moved to Anchorage in 1967 to take over the family business, Carl's Jewelers and Gifts. He was a full-time store owner, jeweler, watchmaker and was always there to greet and serve his customers. He was well known for being friendly and sharply dressed. He enjoyed 1970s disco music and dancing.

He was a huge soccer fan and coached for Dimond High School, bringing them to state championships multiple times. He coached many teams and organized many tournaments over his 40-year coaching career. He took hundreds of kids to tournaments in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia.

Milo was a very loving and caring father and grandfather, taking his family on trips all over the world. He was very charitable giving his time to the community. Milo was active in the Lions International Club, serving as governor in the 1980s, as well as the Shriners, Masons and many others.

He was a very generous person who donated many goods and services from his business. He never said no to anyone who came in to the store asking for donations. He worked hard for over 50 years straight and never once called in sick. He was a very positive person and believed in living life to the fullest. He said if you are able to do something, do it. Don't wait.

Milo was survived by daughter, Cathryn Curtis of Portland, Ore.; son, Carl Mujagic of Anchorage; grandchildren, Heather, Bryan, Caressa, Lucas, William, Cash, Elsiane; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; and son, Christopher Chatlien of Anchorage.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022, at O'Malley on the Green, 3651 O'Malley Road in Anchorage.
