Mar 14, 2022

William "Bill" Melton, 66, of Palmer, Alaska, passed away on March 14, 2022, as a result of an accident near Beluga, Alaska. Bill was born on March 25, 1955, in El Paso, Texas, to Perry and Janette Melton. In March 1961, he moved to Alaska with his family ,where they lived north of Wasilla on a dairy farm in the Meadow Lakes area. From there they moved to Sutton in 1964, and onto Palmer in 1968, where Bill resided until his passing.

His passion at a young age was little league baseball, which he continued into the American Legion League. Bill also participated in track and field throughout school.

Bill worked his whole working career as a heavy equipment operator. He worked through the construction of building the trans-Alaska pipeline and, after it was completed, went on to build many roads and airports across Alaska on various construction projects. Bill finished out the last 15 years of his career in Beluga performing oilfield support. He was a familiar face in Beluga and to him it was like a second home.

He was an avid outdoorsman with a great love for fishing and hunting. He once caught a 23lb lake trout and also shot a 63" bull moose. In his free time he enjoyed fishing when he got the chance.

Bill had a strong bond for his family and friends and was always asking about everyone. He made many friends throughout the state and loved trading stories about Alaska with everyone.

Bill was a loving son, father, brother and uncle who is greatly missed. Bill is survived by his parents Perry and Janette Melton; sons, Kyle and Luke Melton; sister, Debbie Melton; brother, Dee (Marla) Melton; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A celebration of life in Bill's honor will be held on April 3, 2022, from 2-5 p.m., at the Palmer Moose Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, wet a line and go fishing or donate to a charity of your choice.
