Douglas Fisher

Douglas Ellsworth Fisher was born in Anchorage, Alaska, on Feb. 28, 1954, to Robert and Barbara Fisher. He is survived by his parents; his wife, Angie Fisher, of 23 years; younger brothers, Steven Fisher and Brad Fisher; three children, Brandon Cabo, Blake Fisher and Caitlin Jackson; and grandchildren, Rylee and Reese Jackson, Kendall and Bodie Cabo and Ezra Fisher.

His early years were spent in Sutton, Alaska, riding horses, snowmachining, hunting and working on equipment for family and friends.

At age 12, his family planted roots in Big Lake, Alaska, where he helped his family start a general store, lumber and fuel business. Doug worked doing tire repairs, pumping gas and delivering fuel while attending Wasilla High School, where he played football and basketball.

Douglas loved machines, and he attended college in Florida studying mechanics. He then worked for three years on the North Slope operating Rolligon before he became the shop manager for the family business for 42 years. He recently retired after managing the shop at Prism Design & Construction.

His passion was racing. He began racing snowmachines and cars as a young man, and after a long pause to raise his children, he began racing sprint cars, which continued until his passing.

Doug was an honest and trustworthy person who did his best to be a good man. He had a history of donating time and resources to his community by working as a volunteer firefighter, building the annual mud volleyball pits for 30 years and volunteering for racing events and trail management. He was very willing to lend a hand to a friend.

Doug was deeply devoted and loyal to his family. He was an excellent husband and worked hard to be dependable for those he loved. He especially enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.

We remember him as a kind, respectable man giving the best hugs.

Doug's memorial is at 1 p.m., on March 27, 2022, at the Big Lake Lions Club.
