Lynn Curtis Sandvik, 90, passed away at JBER VA Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, on Feb. 12, 2022.

He was born in Moose Lake, Minn. On May 10, 1935, at the age of 4, Lynn and his family moved to Alaska as one of the original colonists of the Matanuska Valley. His mother insisted on bringing the piano, washing machine and her sewing machine.

In 1947, Lynn was the 4-H overall winner in Alaska in agriculture and won a trip to Oregon with other delegates. He graduated from Palmer High School as part of the class of 1949. He was drafted into the Korean War and served in the U.S. Army in Fairbanks, Alaska, as a radar operator. During that time, he also played baseball at Eielson Air Force Base. Lynn was a carpenter, who traveled all over helping to build the state of Alaska. He loved sports, and spent years refereeing basketball games. He loved looking at the stars, and bird watching.

He had an amazingly green thumb. In his later years, he enjoyed planting gardens with his grandchildren, and happily watching them harvest in the fall.

He is survived by his brother, Kent Sandvik; sons, Curtis Sandvik, Del Sandvik, Mel Sandvik and Tim Sandvik; daughters, Denise Walling and Jennifer Sandvik; grandsons, Joseph Walling and Rian Sandvik; and granddaughters, Summer Frazier, Corey Frazier and Liliana Sandvik.
