Jan 23, 2022

We mournfully announce the passing of Kenneth Eugene Merica, "Kenny," 60, of Anchorage, Alaska. Kenny passed away on Jan. 23, 2022, after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Kenny was very happy up to the end, as he spent his days with "The Love of his Life," Edna Gean Ignatin. Kenny had a witty personality that was very inviting, he could bring a smile to your face even without even trying. He was busy with life, and always had his family's interest at heart.

Kenny took an early retirement due to cancer in 2012, he devoted most of his time to working on his house, taking drives and pictures, he was very proactive in politics, and always had a high concern for his country, as he grew up a dependent of the U.S. Air Force and traveled throughout the world as a young person, and enjoyed his many adventures. He made many acquaintances working on the North Slope, the Denali Resort and throughout Alaska.

Kenny was born to parents Florida E. Merica and (late) Clement Eugene Merica. and big brother to sisters Sandra Merica-Nazuruk (late Clarence A. Nazuruk) and Angela Merica-Hundt (Jim Hundt).

While Kenny never married, he fathered his lovely daughter, Marie Rose Monexay (37); and sons, Michael Hugo (36), Michael Ahkiviana (31) and Kenneth Merica Jr. (18). His daughter Marie blessed Kenny with beautiful grandchildren: Alexiah, Jordan, Skylar, Phoenix and Dylan.

Kenny lived a full and vibrant life with many friends and family that loved him dearly. Nieces and nephews, including Shayne (Miller), Shannon (Dipple) Stephanie (Hicks), Ashley (Merica-Nazuruk), Willie (Merica-Nazuruk) Suki (Merica), Scott (Thacker) and Tara (Merica-Hundt); great-nieces and -nephews, Michael, Krash, Cj, Mikaela and Trance; sister-in-law, Irene (Reno) Pearlman. Family and friends too numerous to mention all, we deeply appreciate all your thoughts and prays for the loss of our (grand) father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend.

Services will be held at Legacy Funeral Home – Heritage Chapel at Angelus on Feb. 8, 2022, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Cancer Society in Kenny's name.

This following summer we will honor Kenny with a "Celebration of Life" with having his outside burial service at the Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery - followed by a Potluck with friends and family invited.
