Daniel Chanar

On Jan. 30, 2022, lifelong Alaska resident Daniel Chanar passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Daniel is survived by his children, Emily, Aaron and Anna Rose; parents, David and Pearl Chanar; brother, Joe; sisters, Verna Fonoti and Deanne; and numerous relatives from Minto, Tanana, Toksook Bay and throughout Alaska.

Daniel was preceded in death by his grandparents, Teddy and Mabel (Nicholia) Charlie, Cyril and Brentina Chanar; and great-grandfather, Chief Charlie of Minto.

Daniel was an artist who loved drawing anime, he also created very unique art with Fimo clay. Daniel was a musician who could pick up any musical instrument and learn to play it. He started as a solo performer in the early grunge days and was a lead singer with several bands. He played drums for his dad and other musicians the Athabascan Fiddlers Association. Daniel was intelligent, personable and humorous, and will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.

On Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, a "tea"/Celebration of Life will be held at 5 p.m., at the Moose Lodge on Arctic Boulevard in Anchorage, Alaska.

On Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, a Memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 545 West Eighth Avenue in Anchorage, with the Rev. Dr. Anna Frank.
