Obituary

Timothy Jon O'Hara

Aug 22, 1965 -

Jan 5, 2022

Tim was happiest on the water or in the sky, operating boats and planes, repairing and refurbishing anything with a motor, and spending time with family. He was so loved and is deeply missed.

Tim commercial fished the Bering Sea, Kodiak and his beloved home of Bristol Bay, Alaska. He earned his 500-ton captains license, tugboat captains and six-pack licenses, and was a licensed commercial driver. Tim ran a tender and a barge operation on the Naknek, Kvichak, Nushagak, Egegik, Kuskokwim and Yukon rivers, and the Bering Sea. He served as crew with the Merchant Marines, traveling to distant seas of Africa, the Middle East, transiting the Suez Canal. Tim learned to fly alongside his brother, Tom, taught by their father. Tim was known to be a hydraulics and mechanical specialist.

Tim was an accomplished wrestler. The family living room was a makeshift wrestling mat where brothers Tim, Trevor, Tom and occasionally a sister practiced new moves and techniques. Many house plants were sacrificed.

Tim had a genuine faith in Jesus Christ. He lived his faith towards others being kind and considerate.

Tim's light shone bright even as he struggled with addiction. If you or a loved one is fighting addiction, please consider reaching out to Chainbreakers at dapplebury@aol.com or Recover Alaska at info@recoveralaska.org.

Tim is preceded in death by his brother, Tom O'Hara; and granddaughter, Sienna Alto. Tim is survived by parents, Dan and Sharon O'Hara; daughter, Emma Alto; son, Joseph O'Hara; sisters, Kathy Hurlburt (Ward) and Kristina Woolston (Tim); brother, Trevor O'Hara (Rahly); sister-in-law, Lucy O'Hara; grandchildren, Trent Alto, Aspyn Myers, Willoh Handy, Jacob O'Hara; and many nieces and nephews.

A burial service will be held on Jan. 22, 2022, at 2 p.m., at Naknek Community Bible Chapel. In lieu of flowers, an education fund has been established for Tim's minor son. For more information, please call 907-360-3275.
