Agnes "Babydoll" Beaver

Aug 26, 1947 -

Feb 21, 2020

Babydoll, 72, a longtime resident of King Cove, peacefully went home to Our Lord on the afternoon of Feb. 21, 2020. She is survived by her six children: Rosetta (John) Alcantra, Ruby (Bert) Christiansen, Roberta (Mike) Sutton, Rebecca (Harlan) Newman, Rudy (Nicole) Demoski Jr. and Georgie (Rick) Foerch. Twenty grandchildren called her Nana. Babydoll is preceded in death by her brothers, "Tuckin" and Dennis Gould; as well as her husband, Georgie Beaver; and her ex-husband, Rudy Demoski Sr. Surviving are sisters, Beverly Mack and Harriet Berikoff; brothers Daniel, Robert and Clarence; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Babydoll was born on Aug. 26, 1947, to the late Harry Gould Sr. and Agnes. She is remembered as "Dad's pet." In 1967, she graduated from Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka and briefly attended dental hygienist school in Kansas. She moved back to Alaska and then married Rudy in March 1969. As a young bride and mother, she moved to Anvik, where she resided until 1980 and also lived in McGrath and Anchorage. In 1996, she settled in King Cove after her husband Georgie passed.

There are many ways to describe our Mom and friend, common adjectives include: friendly, crazy, fun, creative, honest (to a fault), Christian and loyal. For many years as a single mother she worked hard to support her children as a career counselor, behavioral health aide and a school cook. She used her creativity to participate in the annual bazaars, with everything from baked goods to candles, making ends meet. She loved baking, crocheting, ceramics, dancing and having fun with her grandbabies.

Babydoll was an accomplished baker and homemaker, even though she got a D in home ec class. She made the most amazing maple bars, doughnuts and breads. She showed her love by crocheting many afghans and other crafts. She could make a simple meal into the best you ever tasted. Her cooking, similar to her love, was not in measurements. There were never any cups or teaspoons of anything, just a handful, a "slavagut," dash or pinch, or splash.

Our dear mother, Nana, friend and sister is at rest and peace. Surrounded by skeins of yarn and beads, she's tapping her feet to worship music and sharing an infectious laugh with those she loves as she looks upon us, and smiles. Her children invite you to a Celebration of Life and a reception at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, 8800 Heritage Center Drive in Anchorage. Wear your brightest colors, bring a dish and share your stories with us. She will be laid to rest in King Cove next to her parents and brothers at a later date.
