Lloyd W. Olson, 92, went to his heavenly home on Dec. 15, 2021, just 11 days after Barbara Ann Olson, his beloved wife of almost 69 years.

Lloyd Winston was born on May 29, 1929, to John Emanuel and Emily Charlotte (Dahlstrom) Olson in Denver. He chose Jesus to be his Savior at a young age and lived his entire life serving Him. When Lloyd was 10, his father died, and his mother raised him and his three older siblings as a single parent through the depression years. Her dream was that one of her children earn a college degree, and Lloyd accomplished that. He attended Bethel College in St. Paul, for two years and then graduated with a degree in education from St. Cloud State Teacher's College in 1953. While there, he met a gorgeous redhead who became his wife just before he graduated. After completing Officer Candidate School in RI, Lloyd served as a communications officer in the Navy. He stayed active in the Naval Reserve while employed at IBM as a systems analyst. IBM transferred Commander Olson and his young family to Anchorage in 1966, where he was instrumental in starting Alaska's first Naval Reserve Unit.

In 1972, Lloyd and a friend purchased B&B Tool Supply Co. in Anchorage, which Lloyd developed and managed until his retirement in 1994. He also served as the president of the Anchorage Better Business Bureau for many years.

Lloyd was a respected leader in his church, serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher and usher. He also blessed many people with his beautiful tenor voice. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed keeping his mind sharp by working puzzles in the daily newspaper.

In 2001, Lloyd suffered cardiac arrest and was not expected to live. However, through the prayers of many, he experienced a miraculous recovery, giving all who knew him another 20 years to enjoy his presence here on earth.

Lloyd loved his family dearly and was a supportive and committed provider. When Barbara sustained a traumatic brain injury four years ago, he faithfully took care of her and moved them to Palmer, Alaska, seeking a smaller home and community. He also loved the Lord and was looking forward to being with Him and seeing Barbara again in heaven.

He will be remembered for his gentle and loving ways, dry sense of humor and incredible wisdom shared quietly, just when needed. He is greatly missed but his influence will live on in the many lives he touched.

His family - daughter, Karen and husband Paul Schindler; son, Keith and wife Sharon and their children, Hunter and Emily; and son, Karl and wife Amy Larsen and their daughter, Riley - are all so grateful for the wonderful father and grandfather he was to each one.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at Lazy Mountain Bible Church, 16005 Shawn Drive in Palmer. The service will also be streamed live: lzymtn.com/stream.
