Gary Lee Peters

Nov 16, 2021
Gary Lee Peters passed away, too soon, at the age of 67, on Nov. 16, 2021. Gary was known as a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved visiting with friends and family while sitting on his deck in Talkeetna, Alaska, with a good scotch and a great cigar.
Gary was truly a giant in the world of telecommunications, well-known and loved across the nation. With broad educational and professional experience, Gary found his passion in telecommunications in the '80s. He founded his own company, ProCommAlaska, in 2000, where he became a stalwart proponent of Alaska communications, particularly in the area of public safety. Alaska public safety had no greater advocate than Gary Peters.
A talented and award-winning marksman, Gary loved to shoot trap and skeet. Gary worked tirelessly to improve and advance the sport with 10 years of service as Board President at Birchwood Recreation and Shooting Park. He was overjoyed to take his grandchildren to the range and teach them to shoot. Gary was also a moderately successful fisherman.
However, Gary was best known for relationships. Gary was a dedicated communicator and loyal friend. He loved to keep everyone connected. A wealth of information and wisdom, honesty and humor; words cannot express how dearly he will be missed.
Gary is survived by his wife, Linda, with whom he'd recently celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary; five children, Angela, Josh (Lyndsi), Christina, Jarod (Monique) and Chaynah (Mark); 15 grandchildren, Christian, Corban, Deyton, Ainsleigh, Kadin, Killian, Brinen, Kamden, Cael, Ryker, Betty, Torin, Grace, Nora and Lucas; younger brother, Mike; and nephew, Mikie.
A memorial service will be held for Gary on Dec. 9, 2021, at Awaken Alaska Church, 5295 Juneau Street in Anchorage, Alaska, at 1 p.m.
