Oct 17, 2021

Longtime Alaskan Bonita Lee Prudence, 79, passed away on Oct. 17, 2021, peacefully in her sleep at home in Wasilla, Alaska.

A celebration of life will be held later this summer at Settlers Bay Golf Course, where her ashes will be spread at the #3 golf hole.

Bonita "Bonnie" was born on Aug. 6, 1943, in Sheboygan, Wis., to Helen Ellen and Earl Rossell Campbell. She graduated from Granger High School and Steven Hennegers School of Business in 1961.

She married Ted Prudence in 1967 in Elko, Nev. She worked for Rubber Engineering and The Milwaukee Railroad in Salt Lake City. In 1974, she transferred to The Alaska Railroad, where she worked for 17 years as passenger sales representative. She was awarded many accolades with the Anchorage Visitors Association and the Mat-Su Visitors Association. She was also secretary for Valley Golf Association for many years and worked as a contract mail carrier and for Pat Check Appraisals before retiring full time.

Bonnie was a master knitter and a crossword puzzler - she could do the New York Times crossword puzzle in a heartbeat. Bonnie loved golf and won lots of trophies and awards, she also coordinated numerous golf tournaments for Valley Golf Association, Valley Rotten Club, Palmer Elks and the Arctic Circle Club.

She is survived by her husband, Ted Prudence; stepson, Greg Yeates of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter-in-law, April Prudence of Bothell, Wash.; and five grandchildren, Chloe McGeehee, Ethan Prater, Forest Prudence, Ethan Yeates and Isabella Yeates. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Campbell of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Sean Prudence of Bothell; daughter, Stacy Prater of Wasilla; and son-in-law, Elmer Prater of Wasilla.

The family would like to thank Janice and Kim with the Alzheimer's Resource of Alaska and the Alzheimer's Resource of Palm Desert California, and special thanks to the hospice people with Ancora, especially Christi, Jennie, Maria and Alexandra.

Pain passes but the beauty remains.
