Lyle Arthur Austin

Jun 8, 1957 -

Oct 31, 2021

Lyle Austin died in his home, of natural causes, on Oct. 31, 2021. He was 64 years old.

Lyle was born in Anchorage, Alaska, at the old Providence Hospital, the first child of Arthur N. Austin and Carol M. White Austin. He was a survivor of the March 1964 great Alaska earthquake and a member, along with his siblings, of the "Fireball XL-5 Club," the group of Anchorage kids who were watching that program when the quake hit at 5:36 p.m.

Lyle stayed in Alaska through high school, graduating from West Anchorage High in 1975. He attended Gonzaga University, and then moved to Mesa, Ariz. Lyle had a genius level IQ and was one of the first computer whizzes of his generation. He found employment with Honeywell in Arizona, where he remained for 20 years as a senior engineering programmer. In 2001, Lyle returned to Anchorage and was the IT manager for eight years at Tryck Nyman & Hayes, and later as IT systems manager for Kinney Engineering.

Lyle enjoyed reading, movies, playing Dungeons & Dragons and computer gaming in his leisure time. He was generous to a fault. He will be dearly missed by friends, family and former co-workers.

Lyle is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Louise Austin; and parents, Art Austin and Carol Austin. He is survived by his sister, Laurie Austin Bruce; brother, Lawrence W. Austin; niece, Erin Gallagher; and nephew, Luke Austin.

Lyle's remains will be interred in Angelus Memorial Park near his parents' gravesites. Memorial plans are yet to be determined.
