Gertrude "Trudy" Weeks

Longtime Anchorage, Alaska, resident Gertrude "Trudy" I. Weeks died at home in Anchorage, on Sept. 30, 2021. Trudy was born in Baudette, Minn., to Olaf Quarstein and Edna Fagen Quarstein on Jan. 10, 1921, the eldest of six children.

She was reared in Wabonica township, Lake of the Woods County, Minn., where she attended a rural one-room school for her first through eighth grades. She graduated Baudette High School in 1939. During World War II, she spent three years as an inspector in a defense plant under contract for the U.S. Navy in the Los Angeles area of Southern California.

In January 1946. Trudy and Dean R. Weeks of Spooner, Minn., married. In January 1952, Trudy, Dean and their three children settled in Anchorage. Trudy was a homemaker who was very active in her children's activities, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school and church activities.

Beginning in 1970, she spent 19 years as a manager in their family business, Blaine's Art and Frame shop. After moving to Chester Park Cooperative for active seniors, she volunteered as manager of the gift shop for many years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean Weeks; son, Gregory Weeks; three sisters; and two brothers.

She is survived by two children, John Weeks and Gretchen Weeks; and son-in-law, Donald McCully,

Trudy's cremated remains will be interred with her husband at Angelus Memorial Park. At this time no service is planned.
