Douglas John Bartholomew

Douglas John Bartholomew died the morning of Aug. 21, 2021, in Dillingham, Alaska, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 56 years old.

Doug was born on Oct. 14, 1964. He was the youngest of five children born to Mary Ann (Masschelin) and Gordon Bartholomew. When Doug was 5, in September 1970, his family of seven climbed into a yellow Ford station wagon and began the journey to move from East Moline, Ill., to Anchorage, Alaska. From that day on, Alaska was his home. Doug loved playing hockey and started when he was in kindergarten and played through high school. Doug attended College Gate Elementary, Wendler Jr. High and graduated from East Anchorage High School in 1983.

Doug began working for MarkAir which took him to Dillingham in the early '90s. He embraced life in Dillingham and love to fish, hunt and cook. Doug worked in Dillingham for Southwest Region School District and Napa Auto Parts. On May 7, 2011, Doug married Anna Mae Anthony. At the time of his death, Doug and Anna Mae were planning to move back to Anchorage.

Doug was a kind and gentle soul, loved by those who knew him well. He would do anything for a friend in need. Doug loved dogs and they loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Doug is survived by his wife, Anna Mae; stepson, Josh Miller; sister, Teri Regan (Tim); brothers, Bob Bartholomew (Kaye Kanne) and Ed Bartholomew; sister-in-law, Cheri Bartholomew. Doug's very extended family includes five nieces; nine nephews; three great-nieces; 11 great-nephews; and many, many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Thomas G. Bartholomew. A Celebration of Life gathering has been scheduled for Nov. 27, 2021, at 2 p.m., at the Peanut Farm in Anchorage. A Celebration of Life gathering has also been set for June 11, 2022, in Dillingham. Adjustments in these plans may be made based on status of COVID-19.
