Peter James Bassney Sr.

Longtime Wasilla, Alaska, resident Peter Bassney, 73, passed away on Sept. 13, 2021, peacefully at home with his wife, Beth, of 54 years by his side. Pete was born in Corning, N.Y., in 1948, to Catherine and William Bassney Sr.

Pete married his lovely wife Beth in 1967. They lived in upstate New York for many years before moving to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1980, with their four young children. While living in Anchorage and working to earn enough money to buy a home in the Valley, Pete and Beth expanded their family once more. Pete and his family then moved to Wasilla in 1982, where he started his own HVAC business AA-1 Sheetmetal Fabrication.

Pete was an avid outdoorsman. Pete could spend hours in the woods and never get lost. He loved fishing, hunting and trapping. Pete enjoyed gardening, fly tying and creating art from trophies he had collected over the years. Pete shared his knowledge and love of nature with his children, grandchildren and close friends. To know Pete was to be his friend. He may have seemed like a tough German to many but he had the kindest heart. Not only was Pete an avid outdoorsman, but he was also a hardworking businessman, generous boss, a selfless provider and a friend to many.

Pete was preceded in death by his son, Billy; mother, Catherine; father, William; and sister, Joan. He is survived by his wife, Beth of Wasilla; brother, Mike Bassney of Wisconsin; sister, Cathy Paul of Pennsylvania; daughter, Carolyn and Ron Clabo of North Carolina, along with their children, Trent, Kayla, Sarah, Jonathan and James; daughter, Jennifer and Mark Ward of Wasilla, along with their children, Braden and Kaitlyn; daughter, Amy and Eric Sather of Minnesota, along with their children, Delaney, Danielle and Dakota; and son, Pete Jr. and Sachiko of Wasilla, along with their children, Josiah, Evan and Chloe.

"Our dad taught us his love and respect for nature and his hard work ethic. As a trapper, he taught us all to walk in his footsteps."
