Donald Bailey

Donald "Don" Frederick Bailey passed away peacefully on Aug. 14, 2021, at the age of 90.

He was born on March 19, 1931, in Yakima, Wash., to Elsie and Dewey Bailey.

In 1952, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served until 1955, when he moved to Alaska.

He worked in many fields including auto mechanics, electrical and construction. He captained the Glacier Queen, a boat that toured between Valdez and Whittier. He also worked for and retired from the State of Alaska Department of Fish and Game, where he oversaw the maintenance for several fish hatcheries around the state.

Don was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was always active and enjoyed the outdoors. He was very artistic and had many hobbies. He especially enjoyed model ship building.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Howard, Stewart, Betty, Lester, Patricia and Eugene; and daughter, Laura.

He is survived by his sister, Joan; daughters, Leslie and Tracy; grandchildren, Andrea, Shawn, Michael and Elena; great-grandchildren, Luke, Lily, Kagun and Violet; and his beloved dog, Abbey. He is also survived by his dearest friend, David, and his wife, Victoria, who he loved like family. He had many other family and friends as well who he cared for very much.

Don requested that there be no service for him however his remains will be placed in the Fort Richardson National Cemetery located at 58-512 Davis Highway, Anchorage, Alaska, in the spring of 2022.
