Alaska suited Mary well as she enjoyed hiking, canoeing, sightseeing and cross-country skiing.

Mary was a dedicated longtime member of the Sons of Norway and Polish clubs. She loved polka dancing. Mary taught biology at West High until retiring in 1989. She was a strong supporter of education.

Mary moved to assisted living in New Mexico at the end of 2020, and passed two weeks later. In accordance with her wishes, her ashes were spread in three places of importance to her in Alaska and on a mountain peak in Las Cruces, N.M.
