Jun 4, 2021

Joyce Hopkins passed away on June 4, 2021. Joyce was born in Duluth, Minn., to Hugo and Helen (Pukari) Kalli on Oct. 31, 1937. After graduating from Esko High School in 1955, Joyce graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1959. On Sept. 26, 1959, Joyce married the love of her life, Jim Hopkins. In 1962, Joyce and Jim packed up their daughter, Dawn, belongings and house trailer, and drove from Duluth to Anchorage, Alaska. Joyce worked at various medical facilities in Anchorage as a RN, a career that she enjoyed so much that she continued to work, past her retirement, into her 70s. Joyce and Jim made Alaska their permanent home, having two more children, Eric and Scott, and building strong friendships in the state that they loved. Joyce enjoyed gardening, bowling, shopping, going to the Alaska Zoo and, above all, spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, quick wit and devotion to her family.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Hugo and Helen Kalli; and brother, Clayton Kalli. She is survived by her husband, Jim Hopkins; siblings, Dennis Kalli, Richard Kalli, Carol Bergstedt and Phyllis Henderson; children, Dawn Foster, Eric Hopkins and Scott Hopkins; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a recent great-great-granddaughter.
