Dale Michael Austermuhl

Dec 5, 1966 -

Feb 12, 2021

Born on Dec. 5, 1966, at 11:59 p.m., in Rochester, Pa., Dale died on Feb. 12, 2021, at home peacefully with family.

His father Don received notice by telegram on Dec. 5, 1966, while in the Navy serving in Cuban waters. When Dale was 4 months old, he started his lifelong journey of living and loving Alaska.

During his younger years, ages l-3 were spent living in Spenard, and ages 4-6 were in Ocean View area, where he and his dog Arrow were inseparable, and he welcomed his baby brother Shane to the family.

Moving back to the Spenard, attending Woodland Park Elementary School was the beginning of lifelong friendships and the wonder years. Boxing for the Haag Team, track and football filled his life – Dale's track record still is unbroken at Romig. He graduated from West High in 1985.

He graduated from Spartan Aviation in Tulsa, Okla., and was an A&P Mechanic. "The OPIE Years," Dale loved working on aircraft and made many lifelong friends. The day he became Director of Maintenance at Everts Air was a great day. Dale later moved to Grants Aviation in Anchorage, and was Director of Maintenance until his death. He loved working there, and his co-workers.

Dale loved life, friends, laughing, family get-togethers, fireworks and fishing with his cousin Brian.

All who knew Dale and shared a moment of his happiness knew about his greatest blessing - his daughter, Eva Elaine, named after Dale's grandmother, August 2005. Living in the blue house in Fairbanks, raising Eva and going to gymnastic events was joyous time. Dale loved and raised Eva's brothers and sisters while they shared living in the blue house, also.

Dale will be greatly missed by family, old and new friends and fellow co-workers. Rest in peace.

Dale is survived by his daughter, Eva; brother, Shane (Florencia Ryan Gaby); mother, Noreen; Tabitha, David, Ben (Jenny), Julia, Erin, Candice Cox, Lizzy Brabham, Ana Brosnan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don.
