Nellie Nielsen Roehl, 90 years old, passed away peacefully at home in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday, June 5, 2021.
Nellie was born in Reindeer Bay on Lake Iliamna, Alaska; she was the second oldest daughter born to Peter and Annie Nielsen. Nellie grew up and attended school in Lake Iliamna and Naknek, Alaska. Nellie enjoyed the outdoors, berry picking, hunting and trapping, gardening, fishing both commercial and subsistence and visiting and spending time with family. Nellie had a deep love and affection for her husband of 72 years, children, grandchildren, extended family and pets.
Nellie will always be known for her laughter and warm welcoming home to family, friends and acquaintances.
Nellie was preceded in death by parents, Peter and Annie Nielsen; sisters, Adelle Severson, Violet Willson, Johnny Neilsen, Arnold Nielsen, Sally Blackbird, Sonja Nielsen and Jan Quapaw; sons, Jefferson Roehl and Doyle Roehl; and grandsons, Daniel R. Roehl, Chad W. Rawls and Joshua Roehl.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Roehl; children, Peggy and Alvin Osterback, Billy and Donna Roehl, Charlene Roehl, Winnie Alexander and Sharon and Richard Wilson; and siblings, Ruth Monsen, Clara Angasen, Donald Nielsen and Anna Quapaw.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Kehl's Chapel, Legacy Funeral Home, 11621 Old Seward Highway, Anchorage, AK 99515. Service and burial to follow on Friday, June 11, 2021, in Kokanok, Alaska.
