Peter Isackson

Sergeant Major Peter Ray Isackson went home to be with his heavenly father on April 14, 2021.

Peter was born in Brainerd, Minn., on Aug. 26, 1982. He attended elementary and middle schools in Palmer, Alaska, while graduating high school in Brainerd. Peter enrolled in the Army National Guard and attended basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., between his junior and senior year of high school. He went on active duty in 2001, and went on to pursue a prestigious military career that spanned more than 20 years. This service included two deployments to Iraq and two to Afghanistan, covering a period of four years. His service and commitment to our country was greatly respected and his knowledge often sought after by his peers and superiors alike. His awards included a Bronze Star as well as a Meritorious Service Medal, several Army Commendation Medals and several Army Achievement Medals.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Heather, as well as their two children, Pete Jr. and Briana. He is also survived by his mother, Emily (Lee) Stevens of Bullhead City, Ariz.; sister, Angela (Howard) Hamilton and their three daughters, Caitlin Mae, Jaymi and Lily, of Baxter, Minn.; sister, Alice (Justin) Wiese and their son, Finn, of Remer, Minn.; grandfather, Peter (Maryann) Probasco of Palmer; along with several uncles, aunts, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country.

Peter leaves behind a legacy that cannot be overlooked and will remain with us for many years. His infectious baby face smile and enormous heart will be remembered by all who came into contact with him. Although the military often took Peter away from his family, they had a very special and enduring bond like no other. They shared many adventures across this great country, as well as globally. However, his favorite place to live and experience the many wonders of God's creation, would be those in Alaska. Whether it was hanging out at their favorite local Palmer spots, hunting and fishing, camping or hiking in the mountains, his favorite place to be was with his family and their very large dogs, which at times have been mistaken for bears.

Peter took great pride in his service to his country. It was not a task he took for granted, but pursued it with distinction and dedication. He was a very special person, friend, brother, nephew, father, husband, son and grandson. He was gifted these many roles for a reason and he did so well at them all. Peter, you will be greatly missed, but it is so comforting knowing, that in faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus who will someday reunite us and we'll be looking for that big hug and helping hand.
