Edna Eakon
Jan 3, 1950 -
Feb 28, 2021
Edna Myrna Eakon, age 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, in her home. She was born on Jan. 3, 1950, in Unalakleet, Alaska, to Jacob and Ellen (Paneok) Soxie. She married Monroe "Monty" Eakon on Aug. 17, 1972, in Unalakleet. As a homemaker, a wife and a mother, she was strong, capable and tireless, always striving to make everything better. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and afgan making; these she learned as a child from her mom. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, whether it was for his career or vacation, and family trips.
Edna truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, morning puzzles, tickled about playing card games, and she was a huge cup collector. Most of all, Edna cherished spending time with family and friends, through Eskimo dinners and late-night visits. Another pass time for all of them, was trying their luck at bingo.
She had a special bond with her mom, brother and sisters. Whenever they were together it was filled with laughter and love. A family member describes their togetherness beautifully: "Every day the sisters would meet up at their mom's house. It reminded me of what all of them loved to do. They either crocheted or knitted. Just like in life they were all intertwined with love of being together everywhere they went. Whether upriver, down the coast or just picnics - the whole family would go together. Like they were woven together just like their knitting. It amazed me that just about every single day they went to be at their mom's house. What a fun full filled house they had always laughing, drinking coffee or smoking. Hehe. Now they are all up in heaven sharing these same stories. Auntie Edna was the last one to go. May she RIP."
Her family wrote, "the loss is immeasurable, but so is the love she left behind."
She is survived by husband, Monroe "Monty"; daughters, Betty, Carol, Bettina "Baby," Mariah and Kaylene; sons, Aaron and Kyle; granddaughters, Tia, Raeanne, Sierra, Melanie, Ariana, McKenzie and Madilyn; grandsons, Jordan, Darius, Gavin, Althen, Xavier and Jacob; great-granddaughters, Magnolia and Magenta; and great-grandson, Eli.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Ellen Soxie; brother, Clifford; sisters, Jobina, Harriet, Arlene, Mabel, Vivian and Ruth; and son, Edward.
We deeply appreciate your kind expression of sympathy in our time of great sorrow. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. As Edna would say, "Quyaana!"
