Monica Erin Foshaug (Banahan) passed on Dec. 17, 2020; she succumbed to a heart attack. She was 56.
Born in Baltimore, Md., on Feb. 27, 1964, she moved to Alaska when she was 7, when Harry got a job in Anchorage at a shipping company.
Monica was married for 33 years to Martin Alfred Foshaug; mother to Disa Erina King (Foshaug) and Amelia Colleen Hanson (Foshaug); and daughter to Brenda Joyce Brown and Harry John Banahan.
Monica loved life and helping people. Starting with Recreation Specialist she life guarded at many swim pools in the Anchorage bowl. Many people know how to swim because of her instruction. She resigned to care for and raise her two children during the day and was a food server at night. She continued to teach and instruct CPR and first aid for Red Cross. Once Disa and Amelia were on their own, she started to create jewelry and art with beads and semi-precious stones, jewelry repair and oil painting. She also enjoyed writing poetry and putting it to paper with her calligraphy skills.
Monica is survived by her husband, Martin Foshaug; her two daughters, Disa and Amelia; grandson, Colt Wesley Hanson; her mother, Brenda Brown; and brother Sean Banahan.
There will be a Celebration of Life gathering at her residence on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, with a bonfire, food and drink. The theme will be Memories in Photos. If you can find five photos of Monica, make copies and there will be an empty album to put them in.
