Valerie was the first baby born in Anchorage, Alaska, on Jan. 1, 1951. As such, she was featured in the Anchorage Daily Times and was gifted many welcoming items from local merchants.
Val graduated from West High School in 1969, and after graduation went to school at the University of Oregon in Eugene, attending until 1971, when she returned to Anchorage.
She married Crag Elliott in February 1972. Their first son Bannon was born in Anchorage in 1976. Val worked at the National Bank of Alaska until 1978, after which time the family moved to Kirkland, Wash. Their second son Mason was born in 1978 in Kirkland.
She divorced in 1983, and never remarried. She raised her sons as a single parent.
She became the Executive Director of the Seattle Rotary Club in 1987, the largest club in the Northwest with more than 600 members. She scheduled their weekly meetings and wrote their newsletter and in 32 years and 32 different bosses later, Val retired in the summer of 2014.
Val was diagnosed as a young girl with a progressive kidney disease. She underwent 10 years of dialysis when she was gifted a transplant from her loving brother Clark in 1998.
Val lived last four years of her life in Kirkland at Aegis Memory Care after being diagnosed with Lewy body dementia soon before retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles "Chuck" Timmerman and Fay Raiter; brother, Scott Timmerman; niece, Courtney Jones; and nephew, Evan Nerland.
She is survived by her sons, Bannon, and Mason (Courtney); grandchildren, Caden and London; siblings. Leslie Nerland, (Rick) Clark Timmerman (Heather Lifeso) and Tracy Jones (Jerome Ledahl); and many nieces and nephews.
At Val's high school reunion of 30 years, Val reconnected with classmate Bill Rudolph, whom she had known since seventh grade. They formed a loving relationship for the last years of Val's life with many trips and adventures and years of correspondence in their long-distance relationship. They enjoyed many visits to Alaska, where they were both born.
Val was a loving woman, and we will miss her beautiful smile and great kindness.
