Audrey Mae Schommer

Audrey Mae Schommer, age 90, passed away on Dec. 6, 2020, at Alliance Hospital in Midwest City, Okla. Audrey was born on May 10, 1930, to Melvin and Helga Bjornstad in Owen, Wis. She had two brothers, Bob and Marvin, and one sister, Evelyn. Audrey married John G. Schommer on Sept. 24, 1948, at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he was stationed in the Army. They had two children together: son John J. and daughter Jeanne C. Their last duty station in the Army was in Alaska in 1965. Audrey worked in Civil Service on Fort Richardson, Alaska, until she retired in 1995. Audrey kept busy during retirement with volunteer work at hospitals, extended care facilities and tutoring students in English as a second language. Audrey was an active member at Central Lutheran Church in Anchorage for over 25 years. Audrey moved to Oklahoma in August 2017, and lived in Tecumseh where she could be close to her daughter, Jeanne Story and son-in-law Mark and enjoy the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She joined Redeemer Lutheran church in Shawnee and enjoyed the fellowship of the congregation.

Audrey is survived by her son, John Schommer and wife Nancy; daughter, Jeanne Story and husband Mark; grandchildren, Jill Loomis and husband Warren, Chrissie Boatman and husband John, grandson Todd Munson and wife Sunny, and Kayla Reyes and husband Nito; and great-grandchildren, Annie, Gage and Sadie Boatman, and Maddox and Wesllyn Munson.

There will be a memorial service for Audrey on a future date at Redeemer Lutheran church in Shawnee, Okla.
