Dan was born on Jan. 28, 1952, in Hammond, Ind., where he spent most of his youth. He raised his family in Alaska and finally retired in Lincolnton. His sister described him as a free spirit who left to explore Alaska after graduating from Central High in Hammond. It was common knowledge that he was his mother's favorite due to his intelligence and ability to schmooze anyone. His wife described him as simply the love of her life. Daniel was a jack-of-all-trades and a master carpenter. His career took him to many remote locations and his skills are displayed all across the great state of Alaska.
His hobbies included racing cars, playing golf, storytelling, fishing, gardening, watching "Da Bears" and crossword puzzles. He had an adventurous spirit and tried his hand at many activities from boxing to demolition derby.
He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he would go. His grandchildren will remember his creativity, pizza and his ingenuity.
He was at peace on the golf course, with a rod in his hand or sitting in his favorite chair doing a puzzle.
He had a mischievous grin and a glint in his eye that let you know you were about to be part of a tall tale or a joke he thought was hilarious. Either way, you listened to be part of his contagious energy.
He was an active member of the American Legion and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge. His loss will be felt by many.
Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Mr. Dan-O, Dan the Man, Alaskan Dan, Daniel Mark Harmon.
