Nov 8, 2020

Mollie Anne Boyer, age 67, of Palmer, Alaska, passed away peacefully from metastatic lung cancer on Nov. 8, 2020, in Portland, Ore. Mollie was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Minnie Boyer; and brothers, John and Dan Boyer. She is survived by brothers, Clyde Jr. (Vivian), Patrick and James (Jenny); sister, Judi (Marvin) Duffy; sisters-in-law, Mary, Yvonne and Karen; and close companion Joanie Kirk. "Auntie" Mollie was loved by 31 nieces and nephews and numerous greats.

Born in Portland, the sixth of seven children, Mollie was a free and loving spirit. After graduating high school, she lived in Quebec, Alaska, and Hawaii, where she earned her Associate of Arts degree from Kapiolani Community College. While she had numerous careers, her true passion was caring for mother earth and all its inhabitants. After college, Mollie moved to Portland and cared for her father, then relocated to Alaska.

Mollie settled in the Mat-Su Valley where, in 1998, she and a few friends began one-stop recycling events in the Wasilla Walmart parking lot. She spearheaded a grassroots movement which became Valley Community for Recycling Solutions (VCRS) and resulted in the LEED Certified recycling facility building, in Palmer. Mollie was Executive Director of VCRS for 18 years until her retirement in October 2019. She viewed everything on earth as a precious resource not to be discarded or disregarded.

In honor of her commitment to the environment, there will be two celebrations of Mollie's life in 2021: around Earth Day on the Oregon Coast, and around Summer Solstice in Alaska.

Memorial donations to VCRS, P. O. Box 876464, Wasilla, AK 99687, would honor Mollie.
