Stephen Roger Saunders, 82, died on Nov. 5, 2020, at Dobson Home Hospice, Chandler, Ariz. He was born on March 7, 1938, in Seattle, Wash.
Steve moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1966, with Chevron. He married his wife, Janice Brewer, in 1979.
Steve, as a field representative, worked for Chevron until 1986, when he retired and went into business as Inlet Petroleum Company with his partner, Rocky Brew, until sale of the company in 2006. Steve served as a Port Commissioner for Anchorage, President of the Alaska Trucking Association and many other boards over the years and was involved in numerous church activities.
Steve loved hunting and cherished his trophy polar bear hide. Boating was a passion and he owned many boats over the years.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Brewer; and children, Bob and wife Lori Brewer, Greg and wife Kristy and Gordon Saunders; grandchildren include Robbie Brewer, Olivia Grant, Sydney and Ben Saunders; sister, Margaret Reiner and family; nephews, Jonathan Kee, Roman Collette; and niece, Adora Cortez.
He will be cremated and his ashes returned to Alaska, a place he has always proudly claimed as home.
