Sep 15, 2020
Calvin Jackson Jr. passed away, at the age of 49, on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020, in his home. He was born on March 16, 1971, in Fort Benning, Ga., to Calvin Jackson Sr. and Jerline Day Jackson of Anchorage, Alaska. He graduated from Russell County High School, and he moved to Anchorage in February 1996 to be with his parents and sister. He worked as a warehouse employee at AIH in Anchorage.
Calvin loved his family and often expressed to his family how much they meant to him. He loved the Lord, and in August 1986 he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Agape Worship Center, where Leon Brown is the pastor.
He had a passion for music. He played the violin in the fifth grade; he later learned to play the saxophone in the eighth grade and he continued playing the saxophone all through high school. With his musical gift, he was sometimes chosen to lead the band as a high-stepping drum major. Calvin loved to sing and with his baritone voice he knew how to carry a note with or without music. He sang in the church choir when he was a small child. His grandmother took him along with his cousins to all of their church singing engagements.
Calvin is survived by his father, Calvin Jackson Sr.; his mother, Jerline Day Jackson; three daughters, LaShae Jerilyn Jackson (Hattie Kelly) of Tallahassee, Fla., Deja Destiny Jackson (Mary Noes) of Bethel, Alaska, and Octavia Jaylynn Wiley-Jackson (Ursula Wiley) of Anchorage; his brother, Bernard (Shelia) Jackson of Ft. Mitchell, Ala.; his sisters, Jasmine E. Jackson of Anchorage, and Monique S. Jackson of Columbus, Ga.; seven aunts; six uncles; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Maude Day and David Day, and John Henry Jackson and Mattie P. Jackson.
