Earl McElmurry

Jul 5, 1974 -

Sep 5, 2020

Earl Lloyd McElmurry passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 5, 2020, surrounded by family. Earl was born on July 5, 1974, in Medford, Ore., to Vincent and Bonnie McElmurry. He grew up in the rural community of Prospect, Ore., until his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1984. He graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1992, and went on to earn an associate degree in computer and networking technology.

"Sometimes miracles are just good people with kind hearts." This quote embodies Earl's generous and caring nature. He was always ready to help friends and family, whether it was to lend a hand or to listen, never expected anything in return. Family came first and this was especially evident in his devotion to his daughter Abby. You could find Earl spending his time with Abby teaching her to bake, constructing elaborate Halloween costumes,or playing video games.

He always loved to tinker and figure out how things worked, which led him to his job working for the Anchorage Correctional Facility. He was an Electronic Technician and was responsible for facility maintenance but specialized in maintaining the security system. He enjoyed his work, especially the people he worked with and spoke of them often.

Earl lived a life of full of love, kindness, honesty and quiet strength. He is loved by so many and will be missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Abigail McElmurry; partner, Cheryl Blades (her son Tyler) of Wasilla, Alaska; mother, Bonnie McElmurry of Phoenix, Ore., father, Vincent McElmurry and stepmother, Linda McElmurry of Palmer, Alaska; siblings, Michelle Ralph of Indpendence, Mo., LaQuita Chmielowski of Wasilla, Alaska, and Vincent McElmurry (Anna Latham) of Juneau, Alaska; nieces and nephews, Selwyn, Autumn, Piper, Jayden, Jedrek, Guthrie, John and Isla; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Cherry McElmurry, and Earl Bliss and Martha McDonald; uncles, Larry Bliss, Bud Hatfield and Ricky Joe McElmurry; and aunt, Debbie O'Donnell.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Providence Cancer Center for their exceptional care of Earl. Services will be arranged by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that tribute donations be made to the Providence Alaska Foundation.
