Vincent Frank Short

Jul 5, 1990 -

Jul 30, 2026

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of our son, Vincent Frank Short, age 36. On July 30, 2026, Vincent died tragically while working aboard the F/V Columbia in Akutan, Alaska. There is an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of his death. Vincent was a loyal husband, dedicated father and loving son who always lit up every room with his kind heart, practical jokes and laughter.

Vincent was born on July 5, 1990, in Port Angeles, Wash., to Douglas Frank Short and Donna Lynn Short (Churchill). He grew up in Quilcene, Sequim, Chimacum, and Port Ludlow, Wash. He moved to Louisiana in 2006, and graduated from Denham Springs High School in 2008. He attended the LSU School of Engineering and then chose a career as a commercial fisherman in 2011. He appreciated the comradery that the fishing community is built upon and how everyone takes care of each other and is considered family.

He met his future wife in Ensenada, Mexico, in April 2017, while on assignment to deliver a commercial fishing boat from Seattle to New Bedford via the Panama Canal. It was love at first sight, he stayed in Ensenada and they built a life of love and family. The practicality of supporting a family set in and Vincent returned to commercial fishing. In January 2018, Vincent was pulled overboard attempting to save a crew member while fishing on the F/V Arctic Wind. Vincent spent approximately 15 minutes in the Bering Sea. By the grace of God, he was rescued by the valiant crew on the F/V Golden Pisces. Over the next eight years, he would seasonally "commute" to work in Alaska and then return to the love of his life and his three beautiful children in Ensenada.

Vincent is survived by his wife, Adriana Gonzalez Robles; their daughter, Katherine; and sons, Frank and Douglas of Ensenada; father, Douglas Short and stepmother Vanessa Brower of Port Ludlow; mother, Donna Short (Churchill) of Quilcene; sister, Katrina Rene (Love) and brother-in-law Gavin Rene of Bremerton; grandmother, Barbara Kunkel (Young) of Sequim; mother-in-law, Demetria Robles Barrios of Ensenada; as well as countless extended family members across the United States and Mexico.

Vincent enjoyed life to fullest and genuinely enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors and fishing. We will forever remember his warmth, his hugs and his ability to find joy in the smallest things.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Vincent's life at The Stone Chapel At Poulsbo, 22272 Foss Rd NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370, on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, from 2-5 p.m. A reception will be held immediately after the service.

The service will be live-streamed for the men and women finishing the season in Alaska and the friends and family in Mexico who cannot attend the service in person.

For those of you who would like to say goodbye face-to-face there will be a public viewing prior to the service from1-1:45 .pm. As many of you know, Vincent was a "come-as-you-are" guy, not a formal person at all. We are inviting people who attend the service to wear Vincent's favorite color, blue or white, either casual or formal.

Please share your favorite PG-13 stories about Vincent this will help keep his memory alive for his family for years to come. There will be an audio guestbook for those too shy to stand and speak at the service.

A fundraiser has been established for Adriana and Vincent's children, Katherine, Frank and Douglas: https://gofund.me/e39a8ace4.

We appreciate all the outreach, kindness and support from his fishing family and friends. Vincent was well respected and loved by so many people. His death leaves a void in many hearts.

"But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus." - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
