Steven "Steve" Jeffery Berns passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Steve was born to parents Bernard "Chuck" and Shirley Berns in Buena Park, Calif., on Sept. 23, 1957. He moved from California to Alaska in 1971, and graduated from Dimond High School, class of 1976.

Throughout life Steve enjoyed reading, skiing, hiking, shooting, camping, old cars, riding dirt bike, motorcycles and snowmachining. He collected books and swords.

Steve was loved by so many and his selfless kind soul will never be forgotten.

Steve is survived by his mother, Shirley; sisters, Kathy, Chandelle and Barbara; former wife, Michele; sons, Ian and Graem; daughters-in-law, Alex and Michelle; grandchildren, Lindsey, Alex, Serious and Zephen; and many nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Chuck.

Private family viewings were conducted on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Cremation Society of Alaska followed by a celebration of life.

Per Steve's wishes, his ashes will be spread at Hatcher Pass in the spot where he had treasured memories with family and friends camping and enjoying the great Alaska outdoors.
