Sherry Lee Huck
Dec 29, 1950 -
Jan 7, 2025
Sherry Lee Huck, 74, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born on Dec. 29, 1950, in Sunnyside, Wash., to Franklin Pierce Olney Jr. and Betty Jean Stewart (Cochran).
Grandparents Howard and Peggy Cochran, Betty and Sherry moved to Juneau, Alaska, in the late 1950s, and later moved to Anchorage. While in Anchorage, Betty met and married L.C. Stewart, who became Sherry's stepdad. Sherry graduated from West Anchorage High School in 1969. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout as a child - also Troop Leader for her daughter's troops - and singing in the high school choir.
Sherry met her husband, Louis Huck, at a birthday party for her cousin Cheryl's husband, Roger Clark. They married on April 26, 1975, and lived in midtown and East Anchorage until April 1981 when they moved to Chugiak, Alaska. They were members of the Municipal Bowling League for years with their close friends, Bob and Judy Alward.
She retired after 30-plus years serving as an Interlibrary Loan Technician at University of Alaska Anchorage libraries including UAA, A.E.I.D.C., Matanuska-Susitna Community College and A.R.L.I.S. She always joked that she never went to college because she could look anything up in a library.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially camping trips; playing card games and board games; doing crosswords; working on Christmas puzzles; watching movies and tv shows while eating popcorn with Junior Mints and drinking black cherry Kool-Aid; dining out or family dinners at home; trying new recipes and restaurants; visiting with neighbors including the "Brunch Bunch;" shopping; and planting flowers.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Betty; stepfather, L.C. Stewart; and brother-in-law, Billy Hastings.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband of 49-plus years, Louis Alphonse Huck; daughters, Carrie Ann Huck (Joseph Gschwind) and Amanda Jean Huck; grandchildren, Haylee Elizabeth Huck (Jesse Lynch) and Weston Louis Gschwind; and bonus family, Natalie Christine Grue.
She is also survived by her stepmother, Wanda Olney; brothers, Franklin Pierce Olney III, Phillip Russell "Russ" Olney and wife Elizabeth, Stanley "Stan" Olney and wife Terrie, Donald Stewart and wife Laura, and Duncan Stewart and wife Kathy; sisters, Crystal Olney Hastings and Paige Olney Lawther and husband Chuck; and many other respective extended family members.
The Celebration of Life for Sherry Lee Huck will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, from 1-3 p.m. AKST, at Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department Station 35, 14080 Old Glenn Highway, Eagle River, AK 99577. We ask that everyone wear their brightest, happiest clothes as she hated dark, dreary colors.
