Robert Gerhard Malone, 51, of Anchorage, Alaska, died on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, surrounded by his family, from injuries sustained in an accident after he was hit by a drunk driver.
There will be a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at St. Patrick's Parish, 2111 Muldoon Road in Anchorage. Friends may greet the family at a reception immediately following the service.
Rob was born on Dec. 3, 1970, at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., the youngest of six children born to Earl and Hannelore (Bauer) Malone. He was a 1989 graduate from East Anchorage High School. Rob married Gretchen Schoendaller on Aug. 7, 1999, and together they celebrated 23 years of marriage while raising their two children.
Survivors include his wife, Gretchen; two children, Natalie (Jacquez) Mason and Andrew Malone; father, Earl Malone; two brothers, Kurt (Kristi) Malone and Stephen Malone; two sisters, Harriet (Barb) Malone and Ruby (Avery) Cutshaw; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the country.
Rob was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Michael Malone; and nephew, Kevin Malone.
Rob worked for 31 years at Wells Fargo, where he was known to be the prankster with the huge smile. Most recently, he drove a bus for the school district. Rob spent countless hours coaching baseball and volunteering his time to maintain the baseball fields, for all kids to enjoy. Most importantly, Rob was a devoted family man that was exceedingly proud of his children. He talked about them to everyone that would listen and found a way to be an active participant in everything they did. He was the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back and would share everything he had just to help others. He was proud to have instilled these values in his children. He will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him.
All of the dogs that he has taken care of will miss him immensely, especially Tali and Riley. In keeping with Rob's love for dogs, the family asks that donations may be made to Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue at www.akdpr.com or any other animal rescue, in lieu of flowers.
