Aug 10, 2026

Riley John Lawrence's sunrise began on Feb. 9, 1990, in Anchorage, Alaska, to his loving parents, Bruce and Angie Lawrence. After a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, adventure and family, Riley's sunset came on Aug. 10, 2026. Riley was the youngest of four children, but from the very beginning, he was destined to fill some pretty big shoes. Growing up, Riley was full of adventure and had a natural curiosity that always pushed him to see what he could do, build and accomplish. He loved testing the limits, trying new things and exploring the world around him. Beneath his adventurous spirit was a deeply loving heart, and he had a way of making the people around him feel special. Throughout his younger years, Riley was surrounded by a close group of friends who shared in his adventures and were always ready to help him try something new. Many of those friendships remained strong throughout his life. Riley was known for his goofy personality and his ability to make people laugh, often turning ordinary moments into memories that would be talked about for years to come. As Riley grew into his teenage years, his friends became more than friends—they became family. One of the most important bonds in his life was with his sister, Reanna. The two were inseparable, sharing a connection filled with love, laughter, support and countless adventures. Their bond only grew stronger as they entered adulthood. Known affectionately as "Re and Ry," they were as close as siblings could be, sharing experiences, knowing the same people and creating stories they would laugh about together for years. Their adventures often became the stories everyone loved hearing later—full of laughter, mischief and the unforgettable moments that made Riley who he was. In high school, Riley discovered his love for working with his hands. He especially enjoyed shop, where he quickly found that he had a natural talent for building, fixing and solving problems. That passion led him to AVTECH School in Seward, Alaska, where he studied Automotive Technology and continued to grow his skills. After returning home, Riley began working for the Bristol Bay Borough School District, where he wore many hats as a janitor, bus driver and maintenance technician. It was during this chapter of his life that so many special memories were made. Riley became an uncle to Kyanna, and he cherished the opportunity to take her to and from school. He also received one of life's greatest gifts when he learned he was going to become a father. On April 28, 2012, his beautiful daughter, Summer Estelle, was born. From that moment on, Summer became the light of Riley's life and held a very special place in his heart.

Riley was raised on the family set-netting site, a place that meant so much to him. It was there that Riley truly blossomed. He spent three years independently operating and working the fishing seasons, finding a deep sense of pride, purpose and belonging in the work. But more than anything, the set-net site was home. It was where he was happiest—surrounded by family, the beach and the people he loved. Those summers created memories that will forever be treasured.

Riley will be remembered with endless love by his daughter, Summer Estelle Posey; parents, Bruce and Angie Lawrence; brother, Bruce Lawrence Jr.; sisters, Ashley Lawrence and Nicole Medaugh; niece, Kyanna Anderson; grandfather, Roy Vanderpool; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and loved ones.

He now joins those who went before him, including his sister, Reanna Anderson; grandmothers, Vernita O'Shaughnessy and Janet Phillips; grandfather, Jack Drew; and many other beloved family members and friends.

Though Riley is no longer with us, the love he gave, the memories he created and the lives he touched will remain forever. His laughter, his kindness, his hard-working spirit and the love he had for his family will be carried in the hearts of those who knew him. His life may have been far too short, but the love he left behind will last a lifetime.
