Reverend Stanley J. Allie

Nov 15, 2020
Reverend Stanley "Stan" J. Allie of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away at Providence Hospital on Nov. 15, 2020. He was born the sixth of eight children on March 29, 1930, in Newcomb, N.Y. Both of his parents came from the province of Quebec, Canada. At age 16, he soloed his first plane, obtained his pilot's license and fulfilled a dream of flying. His great dream was to become an airline pilot. He graduated in 1948 from North Creek High School. He started college in 1949, and was ordained as a priest on May 31, 1958, for the Diocese of Albany.
He was assigned to different parishes in New York until 1969. Alaska intrigued him, and since Rev. Joseph Ryan, from Albany, became the Archbishop of Anchorage that year, Fr. Allie volunteered to help the Archdiocese of Anchorage for one year. That turned into 31 years and eventually retired here.
Fr. Allie served from Anchorage to Talkeetna, Trapper Creek, Willow and Big Lake, Alaska. His pilot's license was a big help getting around to the outlying communities. In 1974, he came back to Anchorage to St. Benedict's Parish. In 1984, he became the pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, and lived through the roof collapse on Dec. 23, 1987. In summer 1990, he was appointed pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Wasilla. With the growth of Wasilla came the challenges of building a new church, his fifth building project.
In July 2000, he went into retirement, making Wasilla his home base. He still was helping out in the parishes, as needed, and was able to take time to visit family and friends, until his health slowed him. In November 2018, he moved into Opus Memoria and was taken care of by the fantastic staff.
He is survived by extended family and dear friends throughout the United States. Due to the pandemic, a service will be announced at a later time. Interment will be in spring 2021 at Sacred Heart Cemetery with a reception to follow. Arrangements made by Janssen Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, his favorite charities are The Claire House for Women, Covenant House and Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School.
