On June 14, 2026, Dr. Phillip H. "Phil" Mabry, affectionately known as "Doc," set off on yet another adventure, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and cherished family and friends. After years of health challenges, Phil passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
Born in the Texas Hill Country, Phil spent his youth in San Saba, Beaumont, and Austin before earning his dental degree from Baylor Dental School. In 1970, the U.S. Air Force brought him to Alaska, where he established both his career and his home.
Following his military service, Phil co-founded Boniface Dental Center in Anchorage, where he practiced dentistry for over 50 years. He was especially devoted to Special Care Dentistry, providing compassionate care to patients with physical, intellectual, developmental, and medical challenges throughout Alaska. His commitment to serving others continues through his daughter, Dr. Lara Mabry, who also provides these services.
In 1977, Phil married the love of his life, Annie, and together they shared 49 years of marriage while raising five children. An avid outdoorsman, Phil found joy in fishing, flying his Super Cub, skiing, golfing, scuba diving, pheasant hunting with his beloved Labs, horseback activities, and traveling the world. Whether on Alaska's rivers or the ski slopes of Idaho, he embraced every adventure with enthusiasm and gratitude.
Known for his warmth, humor, and gift for storytelling, Phil built lifelong friendships with patients, colleagues, and community members alike. He was deeply involved in charitable causes, the equestrian community, and mentoring those around him, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Annie; daughters Sharon (Cindy) Nelson, Laurie Mabry, Lara Mabry, and Brienne Mabry Engebretson; son Johnny Mabry; grandchildren Kristofer Mabry, Jillian Nelson, Allison Prior, Taylor Nelson, and Cooper Nelson; great-granddaughter Claire Prior; and his longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Tom Hartman. He was preceded in death by his parents, T. Jay and Sarah Mabry, and his sister, Sharon Mabry. He was so proud of his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Boniface Dental Center on Thursday, August 20, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics Alaska or an animal rescue of the donor's choice.
Phil will be remembered for his compassion, adventurous spirit, generosity, and unwavering kindness. His legacy lives on in the family, friends, patients, and community whose lives he touched.
