Paul A. Fischer

Longtime Alaskan and Kasilof resident Paul A. Fischer, 85, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Lund Home Hospice of the Valley in Gilbert, Ariz.

Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna, Alaska. Burial will follow at Spruce Grove Memorial Park. Father Robert Whitney will serve the mass. Pallbearers will be Mike, Steve, David, Thomas, Chris and Mathew Fischer. A celebration of life potluck will be from 2-5 p.m. at Mile 107 Sterling Highway. The celebration of life will be held outdoors, so please dress accordingly.

Paul was born on March 23, 1936, in Columbia, Pa. He received his master's degree in administration and also served in the Air Force Reserves. He moved to Alaska in September 1969, and resided in Kasilof. He served on the Borough Assembly and was an Alaska state senator. He also owned Golden Nugget Bakery and Alaska Wholesale Distributor Inc. He retired from the Senate in 1992.

Paul was Catholic and was also a football coach and involved with the Soldotna senior citizens. He enjoyed basketball and gardening.

His family writes: "Paul was an exceptional role model of what a father should be. He loved to have engaging conversations with anyone who would listen. He was an inspiration to all, as he believed there was never a problem too small or too large to be addressed. You will be missed."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Paul Fischer; daughter, Patricia Fischer; and son, Paul Fischer.

Paul is survived by his wife, Joyce Fischer of Alaska; children proceeding by age, Mike Fischer of California, Steve Fischer of Missouri, David Fischer of Arizona, Ann Jansen of Colorado, Mary Fischer of Alaska, Karen Grimes of Nevada, Thomas Fischer of California, Christopher Fischer of Texas and Mathew Fischer of Alaska; 32 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
